Dear Visitor

Welcome to the Kelowna Gifts to Grandmothers website. We are a group inspired by the work of the Stephen Lewis Foundation and though not affiliated, also want to assist African women.

Our current fund raising project is the sewing and selling of bags with all proceeds going to grandmothers raising their orphaned grandchildren, widows and their children. Funds raised have included the assistance of grandmothers in Nigeria and Ethiopia, and the sponsoring of Mutual Benefit Societies in Uganda. Each of these societies consists of 20 widows (including grandmothers) and their children. In these societies; they are provided with leased land, seed and tools to cultivate crops to sustain themselves, and an additional 'cash' crop to improve living conditions.

We meet at Trinity (corner of Spall and Springfield) every Thursday to sew, fellowship, report on current projects, and decide on future projects to improve the lives of African grandmother, widows, and children.

You can help by purchasing one of our tote bags, making a donation, or joining our group. We would love to hear from you!

Thank you for your time.

The Stephen Lewis Foundation (SLF) supports community-based organizations that are turning the tide of HIV/AIDS in Africa. They provide care to women who are ill and struggling to survive; assist orphans and other AIDS-affected children; reach heroic grandmothers who almost single-handedly care for their orphan grandchildren; and sustain associations of people living with HIV and AIDS. Since 2003, we have funded over 300 projects in 15 countries
